I. Basic Living and Social Skills
ARMHS Basic Living and Social Skills are activities that restore a client's skills essential for managing his or her illness, treatment, and the requirements of everyday independent living. Basic living and social skills may be provided to maintain a recipient's functioning if the recipient is likely to significantly regress or is at significant risk to lose independent living. These skills need to be restored to prevent recipients from requiring inpatient or residential placement or to live independently in the community. Basic Living and Social Skills instruct, assist, and support a recipient in areas such as:
Interpersonal Communication Skills |
Cooking and Nutrition Skills |
Community Resource Utilization and Integration Skills |
Transportation Skills |
Crisis Assistance |
Medication Monitoring |
Relapse Prevention Skills |
Mental Illness Symptom Management Skills |
Health Care Directives |
Household Management Skills |
Budgeting and Shopping Skills |
Employment-Related Skills |
Healthy Lifestyle Skills and Practices |
Transition to Community Living |
II. Community Intervention
Community intervention is provided with the intent to alleviate or reduce a recipient's barriers to community integration or independent living or to minimize the risk of hospitalization or other more restrictive living arrangement.
In order to bring change into situations and allow the recipient to function more independently, Community Intervention may be conducted with:
an agency
an institution
an employer
a landlord
the recipient's family, with or without the presence of the recipient
Community Intervention is provided on an individual basis only and may be conducted in person or by telephone.
III. Medication Education Services
Services provided individually or in groups that educate a recipient about mental illness and symptoms, the role and effects of medications in treating symptoms of mental illness, and the side effects of medications. Medication education is coordinated with medication management services and does not duplicate it. Medication education services are provided by physicians, pharmacists, or registered nursed. Medication education is a separate billable service.
