Forest Lake School-Based Mental Health Services
Our program places mental health providers at a community school to provide therapy to students with a mental health diagnosis. Therapists collaborate with teachers, school social workers, and staff to aid the student in working towards their individual goals.
Who qualifies for Forest Lake School-Based Mental Health Services?
Forest Lake School-Based Therapists work with all students who qualify for mental health services. They do not need to be receiving special education services or have an individualized education plan (IEP). Guardian involvement is encouraged and recommended. School-Based Therapy serves clients through the Children and Family Community-Based Division at Nystrom & Associates.

What Can I Expect with Forest Lake School-Based Mental Health Services?
A School-Based Therapist will collaborate with school social workers, teachers, and staff to aid the student in working towards their goals. Our therapists will meet with students once a week for at least 45-minute sessions. School-Based Therapy is not restricted to the school only; at times therapists are able and willing to meet the student in their home to hold family therapy sessions or see the student during summer break in their home.

About Forest Lake, MN
Forest Lake is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States, located 27 miles northeast of Saint Paul. The 2019 population is 20,933. Forest Lake began as a stop on the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad. The first train reached Forest Lake on December 23, 1868. The lake was so named for the abundant timber that lines its shores. Forest Lake Township was organized on March 11, 1874; the first one-room school was built that year at the former location of city hall (220 N. Lake Street). The city of Forest Lake was incorporated on July 11, 1893 with 175 residents. In 2001, the city annexed the surrounding former Forest Lake Township.
