More About Crystal Nelson

Clinical Interests:

Intuitive Eating, Yoga Calm Certified, Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Art Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Adlerian Psychotherapy.

Clinical Approach:

I first started studying psychotherapy at the University of Minnesota while majoring in Family Social Science and minoring in Public Relations. Since 2004, I practiced as a mental health therapist in Community-Based services working with individuals and families on various mental health and relational issues. In 2011, I gained my license in Marriage and Family Therapy and also gained Advanced Training in Emotion Focused Couples Therapy. In 2016, I eventually started working with the DBT team working with families, teenagers and children. I have a strong knowledge of healing modalities for family systems, various SPMI and mental health issues and healing trauma. Above all, my main intention is to work with clients to become their own self-healers, practice self-compassion and wholistic living.

Hobbies:

I have been a competitive volleyball player since I was 12 years old. I have also been practicing mindfulness and yoga since 2009. I prided myself on my athleticism. These passions continue to carry over into my adult life playing sand volleyball and teaching yoga. I enjoy the arts like painting, dance and music. I also love spending time with family and friends.
