More About Jamie Houk
Clinical Interests:
My clinical interests have been how significant events impact one's viewpoint and attachment style. I enjoy working with teens and adults in regards to life changes/transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, assertiveness training, grief and loss, stress management, and personality disorders.
Clinical Approach:
It is important to build a therapeutic alliance and a synergy so that not only the symptoms can be addressed but the underlying root causes can be as well. I work with the client to gain an understanding with what their personal experience is and what attempts have already been made to make positive changes. I often incorporate Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and expressive therapies such as music and art into the sessions. Time is focused on solution based goals while addressing any limiting beliefs and/or barriers. One of my personal goals is to receive training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming to add another useful tool to utilize in therapy sessions.
Hobbies:
My personal interests include spending time with my family and my pets. I enjoy art, cooking, watching movies, and playing video games.
