More About Mary Veronica Sweeney
Clinical Interests:
Collaborating with extraordinary folks is the best part of working in the behavioral health field, including with the Nystrom team! In 2022, I became a Fellow with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) who encourage skill, compassion and creativity for addressing topics that impact us all. I teach webinars, lead multiple groups, and design interventions to optimize my client’s wellbeing with a specialty in co-occurring issues, and/or marginalized populations. Working with faculty at the University of Minnesota’s Integrated Behavioral Health program inspired my clinical interests in harnessing exciting ideas in neuroscience, flow states, creativity, the Self in Internal Family Systems, effortless mindfulness, belonging, wise aging, life transitions, recovery, to name a few.
Clinical Approach:
It is a privilege to work with a variety of clients seeking support. I respect the “solutions” each one brings to their life’s problems, as we work to refine those that lead to meaningful goals, lasting connections and those no longer serving the big picture! Everyone is unique; therefore, I work collaboratively to design treatment goals that adhere to the principles of Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness skill-building, Internal Family Systems therapy, Narrative Therapy. DBT, CBT and others.
Hobbies:
Plotting a trip to see places around the world never loses its luster for me. I am driven to track the great art museums of the world – to finally glimpse an actual piece of art, versus the small replica of it in a book. Or to walk the cities, the meadows and hills where a great character came so alive to me in a story.
