More About Michaela Oesterlin
Clinical Interests:
I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and a pre-licensed LPCC with a strong commitment to supporting individuals facing addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. My clinical interests include substance use disorders, trauma and PTSD, and working with clients through experiences of grief and loss—including ambiguous loss, where closure may be unclear or unresolved. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their stories, build resilience, and pursue healing. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centered care that honors each individual’s unique path toward recovery and emotional well-being.
Clinical Approach:
My clinical approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a person-centered framework. I believe in meeting clients where they are, creating a supportive and collaborative space that respects their autonomy and individual goals. I also integrate Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation, and move toward meaningful change. My work is trauma-informed and tailored to each client’s unique needs, with an emphasis on building coping skills, increasing self-awareness, and fostering long-term emotional wellness.
Hobbies:
Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m a mom, a creative spirit, and someone who enjoys the simple joys of life. I share my home with my family and two cats, and I love spending time gardening, reading, making art, and connecting with friends. I also enjoy exploring new creative projects and occasionally trying out new recipes in the kitchen. These activities help me stay grounded, inspired, and connected to the people and world around me.
