More About Rachel Moen
Clinical Interests:
Primarily, I have worked with ages 5-10 at the elementary school level, but I also have experience and am interested in working with teens, young adults, and individuals with disabilities. I have experience working with clients who are struggling with emotional regulation, conflict resolution, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, internal/external behaviors, exploring their gender and/or sexual identity, transitioning out of high school and into adulthood, exploring/identifying who they are, and more. I will see clients who may have a range of concerns, and who may or may not have a formal diagnosis. I have knowledge and/or experience with anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorder, stress related disorders, disability, gender and sexual identity, behavior intervention, developmental disorders, and other concerns. I have gained experience at Central Iowa Center for Independent Living (CICIL), Summit Alternative High School in the Ankeny School District, Heritage Elementary School in the Dallas Center-Grimes School District, LifeWorks Counseling Center, and Dallas Center-Grimes Before and After Daycare Program which enables me to work diligently and constructively towards providing inclusive and holistic care for all of my clients.
Clinical Approach:
I am trained in various therapeutic approaches to help tailor each treatment and intervention to the client’s unique needs. I primarily utilize a client-centered approach with the belief in providing a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I strive to collaborate with my clients and families to develop effective practical strategies and techniques tailored to their unique needs, fostering personal growth and positive change.
I am focused on ensuring that my clients see real progress: my style is interactive, non-judgmental, collaborative, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. As a trauma-informed therapist, I am sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges and works closely with clients and families to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion. I am dedicated to providing a relationship that is inclusive, holistic, positive, and collectively working towards the client’s goals. I am committed to maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice, which serves as a safe harbor for people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and people of the global majority. My first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process.
Hobbies:
I enjoy reading, spending time with my family and friends, and getting out in nature whenever possible. Most often you will find me goofing off, playing with new gadgets, reading, or looking up new, fresh, and fun recipes, activities, and DIY projects to try. I enjoy being around all animals, especially my two lovely kitties, and I never shy away from a relaxing evening with them on the couch binging a good show. Feel free to bring pictures of yours and providing any suggestions of new shows or movies to watch as well.
