More About Steven Strickland
Clinical Interests:
Clinical interests include helping others with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, marital issues, and recovery from past trauma. When possible, I like to utilize results from psychological testing to provide more objective data in addition to the more subjective clinical notes. Also, having worked in corporate America for 20 years, I am also very interested in helping people with job-related issues and employee engagement. Research strongly suggests that personal faith and a sense of meaning in life can very much affect a person’s well-being and growth. Where appropriate, I also like helping people in these areas.
Clinical Approach:
My approach includes setting mutually agreed upon treatment objectives tailored to meet the needs of each client. Methods include client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, short-term solutions based therapy, and conflict resolution training. I find it important to get to know each client and to learn about and utilize what has worked for him or her in the past. When medications and/or specialized treatments (such as addiction recovery) are needed, referrals are made to those skilled and qualified in those areas. All of this is done with the overall goal in mind of helping people to find restored hope and achieve improved mental health.
Hobbies:
I enjoy golf, travel, watching movies, and listening to and playing music. Spending time with family is very important, including backyard barbeques and celebrations of holidays and birthdays together. The whole family also shares an annual tradition of traveling down southeastern Minnesota in the fall to enjoy the colors and spend the day together. I also love volunteering as an adult education instructor at our local church.
