More About Barbara Brindle

Clinical Interests:

I work with individuals of all ages, from elementary aged children through older adulthood. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I have experience in helping families who are going through change whether it be divorce, adoption, foster care or blended families. I work with adults who have an array of issues from life transitions to anxiety to depression to schizophrenia to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to Trauma.

Clinical Approach:

I work from a strength-based perspective – building on what is already there, adding new skills and strategies to an individual's tool kit. This informs my work in all areas. With individuals, my approach is often threefold – foundations in self care, learning coping skills to manage difficult moments and learning how to work with thoughts so they don’t send your mental health into a downward spiral. With children and parents, I use the Nurtured Heart Approach. With some challenging children, traditional consequential approaches tend to escalate already problematic situations. The Nurtured Heart Approach gives parents and kids a less stressful way to manage difficult situations. With couples, I work a lot on communication and active listening. How to come out of disagreements still feeling like you are on the same team. I also incorporate creative expression into the work of therapy when possible.

Hobbies:

I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, biking, going to the zoo, and sitting around a fire. I also enjoy listening to live music, reading murder mysteries, meditation, learning new things, going to Duluth and visiting new places.
