More About Britney Silva

Clinical Interests:

As a professional in training, I am privileged to provide therapeutic services to children (6 and up), adolescents, and adults as well as conduct family and group therapy. My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, life transitions, stress management, relational, and spiritual issues. I believe that everyone has a right to wellness which means I approach health or wellness holistically and entails not only psychological wellness, but also physical, emotional, relational, financial, and spiritual wellness.

Clinical Approach:

I take an eclectic approach that is primarily based on existential and strengths-based cognitive behavioral therapy but mixes the educational and experiential opportunities, and skills from DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Since many of the ailments we face are metaphysical or spiritual, I believe we must treat a spiritual problem with a spiritual solution. I live by the proverb “As a man thinketh so he is” and I believe in the power of laughter as another proverb implies “Laughter makes the heart joyous”. I consider myself a partner with my clients who have the resources and strength to make the changes they want to see, but who might need better tools than what they have been using. We don’t disregard the tools that have helped someone survive, we improve them. A shovel got you all this way, but a snowblower would make things a little easier. Of course, things would be difficult if a hammer encounters a screw, but what if there was a screwdriver or even a drill. I try to create a safe and supportive environment that allows my clients to “grow through” to “get to” their “breakthrough”.

Hobbies:

In my free time, you will catch me being the goofy mother with my kiddos and we might be playing some sort of game. I love learning, so if I get time alone, you might find me reading a book or watching something educational. I have a passion for health and nutrition so I am usually in the gym during the week and I like making all-natural skin and hair products. I often like walking instead of driving to feel grounded. And if I truly relax then I am watching Criminal Minds.
