More About Gabriel Shapiro
Clinical Interests:
My clinical interests include Logotherapy, Twelve Step Facilitation, Existential Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, DBT, and CBT. I am also interested in how people in recovery are represented in popular media, and how addiction could be conceived of as a condition of over-control.
Clinical Approach:
I use various clinical approaches depending on the client’s needs. I tend to approach issues using a combination of Logotherapy, CBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing until I have a better sense of what each client’s specific needs are, and then tailor an approach to those specific needs.
Hobbies:
I enjoy playing the guitar, reading, and watching movies. Prior to entering the counseling profession, I was a graduate student in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature (CSCL), and the topics on which I was focused (Film Theory, South Asian history and politics, and Hindi/Urdu cinema) on during those years of study still interest me.
