More About Jessica Ruth
Clinical Interests:
I have always felt a passion for helping others, and with over 10 years of experience working in mental health settings this has not changed! My training in marriage and family therapy offers me a unique systemic lens through which I view my clients and the challenges they bring to therapy. I have experience working with adolescents ages 16+, adults, couples and families who are seeking support for variety of concerns including but not limited to: mood disorders (depression, bipolar illness), borderline personality disorder, ADHD and other neurodiverse populations, trauma, grief and loss, as well as relationship concerns related to communication, parenting intervention, sexual issues, infidelity, and polyamorous/ethically non-monogamous partnerships. I strive to offer BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.
Clinical Approach:
My theoretical orientation stems from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and behavioral approaches (CBT, DBT), as well as Gottman Theory and Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy when working with couples and families. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) when treating trauma. That said, I consider myself to be integrative as not one approach works for all clients or concerns! I believe that part of my role as a therapist is to meet people where they’re at, which sometimes means combining various aspects of the different treatment modalities to achieve the greatest outcome.
Hobbies:
During my free time you might find me watching movies, reading, doing a jigsaw puzzle, practicing my knitting, or out in the garden tending to my flowers. My greatest pleasure is immersing myself in nature by going on hikes with my dog, exploring the North Shore, or walking near a body of water.
