More About Jim Duchon

Clinical Interests:

I work with children and their families. While the child may be the focus of treatment, I will involve the family and the other social systems that have an effect on the client. Most of my clients tend to have some sort of trauma in their background, which may continue to have effects on their current functioning. Family members my also be experiencing secondary trauma from the stress and anxiety they are experiencing from their involvement with the identified client.

Clinical Approach:

I am an eclectic therapist. Every child and family are unique and will require unique solutions. First and foremost, a strong relationship between client and therapist is critical for progress to be made. I also believe that we all are part of and integrated in social systems, such as family, extended family, school, peers and religious. In order to most effectively treat the individual we need to involve our systems. I will use cognitive therapy, DBT, rational emotive therapy and play therapy, depending on the needs of the client.

Hobbies:

I enjoy playing tennis and other outside activities such as hiking and biking. I am obsessed with dogs and greatly enjoy their company. I go to movies on weekends, especially in the winter months.
