More About Joe Malfi
Clinical Interests:
My clinical interests are working with clients that have traumatic experiences, those that have severe and/or persistent mental health diagnoses, traumatic brain injuries, neuropsychiatric conditions, chronic health conditions (such as dysautonomia, POTS, bariatrics, autoimmune diagnosis, lyme disease or tick borne, etc), combat veterans, first responders (EMS, Police, Fire Fighters, Nurses) and front line healthcare workers, as well as child and adolescents with mental health concerns.
Clinical Approach:
Being me. My approach has always been to meet my clients where they are at, explore what their goals are, how I can help them achieve those goals and what I can do to be a partner in their healthcare along that journey. I have found that most times the healing process is not a straight line and there are both “ups” and “downs”. Through active listening and understanding that everyone has their own reality, I will be a partner in your healthcare, showing you both compassion and empathy, while I help you learn all of the tools necessary to build your “toolbox” of coping skills necessary.
Utilizing my multifaceted background with diverse real world experience growing up in New York City as well as additional education under clinicians that specialized in both forensics and neuropsychiatry, it has given me an interdisciplinary approach within the counseling/therapy experience to encompass the biological, genetic, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, and behavioral attributes of an individual. Being well rounded in many aspects of counseling/therapy has made me very approachable and I have found my calling helping those with complex mental health needs. I truly enjoy helping those with these complex mental health needs and being a resource for my clients, so they can feel that they have someone that they can go to as a “safe harbor” to help them weather the storm.
Hobbies:
My hobbies include being outdoors, target shooting with my son, cooking with my wife, watching Netflix (always trying to find something good to watch – let me know if you have any recommendations), and learning about different cultures (ranging from food to customs).
