More About Kayla Akers
Clinical Interests:
I have a special interest in working with the DC:0–5 population, supporting infants, toddlers, and young children along with their caregivers through the early developmental years. I also have a deep passion for supporting individuals and families navigating the perinatal period, including experiences related to postpartum adjustment, infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, surrogacy, and adoption. My work is grounded in a relational and attachment-based approach, with an emphasis on creating a safe and compassionate space for healing and growth during life’s most vulnerable transitions.
Clinical Approach:
As a developing clinician, I am continuing to explore and refine my theoretical orientation. At this stage in my training, I am drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for its practical tools and focus on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I also value relational and person-centered approaches, which emphasize the therapeutic relationship, empathy, and the unique experiences of each client. These frameworks guide me in creating a supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their healing journey.
Hobbies:
Outside of my work, I cherish spending time with my husband, our two sons, and our dogs. Whether we’re out on a family adventure or enjoying a quiet day at home, those moments mean the world to me. I love traveling and discovering new places, especially when it involves good food and beautiful scenery. As a Minnesota native, I especially look forward to the magic of summer here. Lake days, farmers markets, and warm evenings spent outdoors are some of my favorite ways to recharge and connect.
