More About Mara Coyle

Clinical Interests:

I am interested in working with adults from age 18 to elders (and in between) who are struggling with life challenges such as life transitions, aging, grief, job loss, relationships ending, and caregiving for those who have loved ones with dementia etc. I am interested in helping people manage mental health symptoms and diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder and trauma.

Clinical Approach:

As an art therapist, I believe that art can help people express the inexpressible and that by reflecting on the created piece, people can gain insight and empowerment. It is not necessary to consider oneself an artist to benefit from art therapy. I offer art therapy directives for a wide range of comfort levels with artmaking. I know that not everyone is interested in art therapy. I am also a talk therapist. My approach stems from my background in Adlerian psychology, which emphasizes encouragement and having the courage to be imperfect. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness.

Hobbies:

In my spare time I enjoy reading and talking about books in my book club ( of more than 25 years). I walk every morning with my chocolate lab mix Hershey. My go to art materials are watercolors, oil pastels and collage. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two grown sons.
