More About Matthew Holkup
Clinical Interests:
Substance Abuse, Anxiety, Depression, complex PTSD or PTSD, high functioning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome, Borderline Personality Disorder and gambling/addictive behavior
Clinical Approach:
I utilize Emotion Focused Therapy techniques (see Leslie S. Greenberg for more on this technique). I see emotion as the primary motivator for behavior. I see there are two distinct experiences in any situation one that is intellectual and one that is emotional. I have basic EMDR therapy and looking to be trained in other trauma therapies as well as working towards EMDR certification. I use the utilization of daily activities to cope, using anxiety reduction techniques of breathing exercises, grounding, stretching, muscle relaxation and distraction from rumination. I utilize positive reinforcement and acknowledgement of progress made and strengths of clients as key features in recovery from mental health.
Hobbies:
Social events, community, playing and watching sports, time with family and friends and exercise.
