More About Riley Rodemaker
Clinical Interests:
I have experience working with individuals ranging in age from late adolescence to late adulthood. Some of the most common issues/diagnoses that I have worked with include: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), grief, adjustment disorder (adjustment to life/work/relationship changes), and suicidal ideation/non-suicidal self-injury. I continue to work with a variety of demographics (I.e., age, race, gender, religion) but have found particular interest working with those experiencing grief/loss and suicidal ideation.
Clinical Approach:
My approach to counseling draws from a mixture of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I find that the most important part of counseling is being able to develop a strong therapeutic relationship which can then lead to collaboratively working together to address individual’s concerns. My overall goal when working with clients is to help them feel heard and validated, learn new skills/techniques specific to them, and encourage habitual use of those skills for an improved quality of life.
Hobbies:
When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my wife, Amna, and our two cats (Boo, Daisy) and dog (Corgi – Elsie). I am also an avid movie/TV show fan, comic book lover, reader, video gamer, and runner.
