More About Roshni Kanda

Clinical Interests:

My clinical expertise is catering to individuals (16+), couples, and families, a facet of my work that I find is very rewarding. Throughout my career, I have gained experience with various mental health diagnoses, including Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, as well as issues related to parenting, anger management, student stress, and college-aged stress, among others.

Currently, I am diligently working towards obtaining licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. My professional journey has seen me operate across diverse settings, ranging from community-based and in-home therapy focused on family dynamics and parenting skills to roles as a school-based therapist and engagements in multiple autism day treatment centers.

Clinical Approach:

In terms of therapeutic approaches, I focus on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and a spectrum of theories including Gottman, Bowen, Experiential, Structural, and Narrative therapies. Additionally, I integrate modalities such as Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation techniques, Motivational Interviewing, Genograms, Timelines, The Empty-Chair Technique, Role-Playing, and Psychoeducation to tailor interventions to the unique needs of each client.

My therapeutic style is characterized by attentive listening, support, and the teaching practical skills aligned with the goals delineated from the treatment plan goals. During sessions, clients engage in role-playing exercises tailored to their specific challenges, allowing for hands-on learning and the visualization of effective communication strategies. I provide structured directives, or homework assignments, enabling clients to apply newly acquired skills beyond the confines of our sessions. This approach fosters accountability, facilitates progress monitoring, and empowers clients to discern the strategies that best suit their individual needs. Central to my practice philosophy is the belief that everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, validated, and equipped with the resources necessary to address their concerns comprehensively. I am committed to walking alongside my clients as they navigate the journey towards holistic well-being, recognizing that behavioral change and personal growth require patience, perseverance, and collaboration.

Hobbies:

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going on walks and to the parks with my family, going to the beach, going out to eat, and running. I enjoy doing photography when I have the time.
