More About Sheila Schuster
Clinical Interests:
I am a licensed professional clinical counselor and licensed substance use counselor with a Master’s Degree in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy with an emphasis on Co-Occurring Disorders and Addiction Counseling from Adler Graduate School. I work with individuals 17 years and older.
I have experience working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds and work with survivors of trauma and individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, body image, eating disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders (ADHD), life transitions, and recovery from addiction. I am trained in, and working on my certification for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
Clinical Approach:
I approach therapy holistically, guiding my patients through an ongoing process of discovery allowing them to evaluate how beliefs and past experiences inform current behaviors, mood states, and physiological responses to stressful events. I weave evidenced-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance, and Commitment Therapy, into my primary therapeutic approach of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
Hobbies:
A work-life balance is important to me. I believe that mindful movement is essential in maintaining wellbeing, so I practice yoga, engage in resistance training, jog, and spend time in nature. Additionally, I enjoy reading, spending time with my 3 daughters, singing along to my favorite songs, and snuggling with my Shih Tzu Bichon Lucy.
