More About William Lamers

Clinical Interests:

I enjoy working with kind-hearted people seeking therapy to make improvements for their mental health! I enjoy working with individual adults and children/adolescents who may be experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, general life stress, relationship/family issues, identity exploration, adjustments, grief/loss, social issues, and school/work issues. I also enjoy working with couples on a variety of relational issues, such as effective communication, conflict resolution, parenting skills, infidelity, sexual intimacy issues, emotional disconnection (“rekindling the flame”), and stress with preparing for marriage/cohabitation. I also enjoy working with divorce from various aspects, such as assisting two people in “decoupling” or separating from each other, individual adults going through individual struggles in light of a separation/divorce, or even children of divorce who may be experiencing confusion or challenges with adjusting to their parents’ divorce.

Clinical Approach:

I use a person-centered approach, first and foremost, to allow clients to feel welcome in the therapeutic space. I view the clients as the experts on themselves, with the best insight regarding the various factors that are contributing to their mental health symptoms, as well as the barriers to their healing path. I work with clients collaboratively to learn more about their unique situations, and help them interpret the information they bring to our sessions in ways that make sense for their worldview. Depending on the client’s specific concerns, I also incorporate elements of CBT, EFT, solution-focused therapy, structural family therapy, narrative therapy, Adlerian theory, attachment theory, Gottman theory, and psychoanalytic theory.

Hobbies:

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with friends or with my fiancee. I enjoy many different activities, such as playing sports (basketball, tennis, and volleyball are my favorite to play), playing video games, attending a concert, working out at the gym, getting dinner at a good restaurant, writing/making music, or staying at home with a good movie or show to watch or stream!
