More About William Shaw
Clinical Interests:
For almost two decades I have gained experience working with many different mental health diagnoses, relationship issues, and difficult life challenges. I love working with a variety of different people who struggle with a wide range of different problems. Some of the different topics I enjoy working with are relationship issues, ADHD, depression, anxiety, perfectionism, anger issues, co-dependency, and life transitions. At the moment I am focusing on work with adults and adolescents as well as whole families.
Clinical Approach:
We all get stuck sometimes. And we can all benefit from having a caring and supportive outside perspective to accept us, hear us, guide us, and challenge us to grow. I am extremely honored to be invited to come alongside people in really difficult moments. I practice an integrative approach that meets the needs of each individual and their situation, mostly focusing on Family Systems theory, Solutions Focused therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
As a Systems therapist, I always say that we carry the families that we grew up in with us wherever we go and we repeat those dynamics in new situations and relationships. It is important to take a look at the families we come from to see to what extent those dynamics are affecting our current relationships and problems we are facing.
When we focus on your past, it is in order to help you get unstuck from your situation today. I try to walk a balance between addressing deeper issues and working on skills to help you in the here and now. In my experience, both are needed to move forward.
Hobbies:
I love board games, chess, hiking and camping, anything science fiction related, long breakfasts, full contact badminton, and spending quality time with family and friends.
