What is New Hope DBT for Kids?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for kids is an evidence-based treatment created by Dr. Marsha Linehan. It was originally created for the treatment of borderline personality disorder – a disorder characterized by highly suicidal behaviors, self-harm, and intense, out-of-control emotions. DBT has now proven effective in treating a wide array of mental health disorders – personality disorders, chronic depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and addictions.

DBT for Kids is a program for families with children ages 8-18 that display:

  • Aggressive verbal or physical behavior

  • Suicidal ideation
  • Other behaviors which have not been successfully treated by standard therapy

Parent/Guardian and child will be expected to attend: individual DBT therapy, skills training group, and family sessions.

About New Hope, MN

New Hope is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States and a suburb of Minneapolis. The population was 20,339 at the 2010 census and 20,907 at the 2019 estimate. New Hope was originally a farming community called Hope in Crystal Lake Township. In 1936, the city of Crystal was incorporated, taking up all of former Crystal Lake Township. The farmers in the western part of the city broke off and formed New Hope Township. In 1953, with suburbia moving in and farmers moving out, New Hope incorporated as a city.
