More About Abby Porter

Clinical Interests:

I have previously worked with children who have an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. I am currently enjoying working with adults experiencing a wide variety of issues/concerns that have come up in one's life. Some of the more common diagnoses I have worked with include: major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizoaffective disorder, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I work with a variety of demographics (i.e. age, race, gender, religion) but have found interest working with victims of sexual violence, those experiencing increased crises, and individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Clinical Approach:

I utilize a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy skills and techniques with motivational interviewing techniques as my approach to working with clients. I also believe that a strong client-provider therapeutic relationship can help guide the direction of services and goal outcomes. I incorporate DBT-related skills into my work, including mindfulness, radical acceptance, and distress tolerance. My goal with working with clients is to meet them at where they are at, incorporate skills and techniques that will benefit each client individually, and encourage habitual use of those skills for a better quality of life.

Hobbies:

I enjoy spending my time with my two dogs, Dolce Gabbana and Valentino. I also love to paint and draw, write, clean, and shop. I'm also a sports fan: 1. Gymnastics, 2. Basketball (Golden State Warriors!), and 3. Football (Packers and Niners!)
