8 Simple Ways to De-Stress

We all experience stressful days (or string of days) in our lives. However, we must learn how to manage that stress so it doesn’t worsen or increase the risk of conditions like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Finding ways to de-stress doesn’t have to be difficult. Reduce stress and enjoy your overall quality of life by practicing a few simple relaxation techniques. Here are eight ways to de-stress:

1. Move Your Body

It’s no secret that moving your body is good for you, but it does wonders for reducing stress. Whether it’s taking a quick walk, doing some light stretching, or a workout video, moving will loosen up your body and increase blood flow.

2. Unplug

Perhaps a big factor of stress is due to being tuned in to what everyone else is doing. Put your phone down. If you need to, put it in airplane mode and set it aside for a couple of hours.

3. Go Outside

Nature heals by reducing blood pressure, the production of stress hormones, and your heart rate. Go outdoors and experience the far-reaching impact on your brain like less stress, anxiety, and more creativity.

4. Socialize

Being with friends and family is one of the best ways to de-stress. Laughter releases endorphins, which will help release the pressures of your day.

5. Breathe

On a time crunch? Take a few intentional deep breaths and you will lower your stress levels immediately. Here are some deep breathing exercises that will bring you into the present moment.  You can also incorporate deep breathing into meditation or with aromatherapy if you diffuse essential oils.

6. Say No

Part of what can lead to a stressed-out mind and body is saying yes to too many things. If you have too much on your plate, or simply need a night to yourself, opt-out on a request or two. Get the rest you need and say no thank you.

7. Journal

Grab a notebook and put your thoughts, feelings, and worries on paper. This will help you to gain a new perspective and tap into insight within yourself.

8. Get Plenty of Sleep

Want to know one of the ways to de-stress that can improve your stress levels immediately? Good quality sleep. Wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day by getting eight hours of restful sleep.
